The game unfolds over two distinct eras—the canal era spanning from 1770 to 1830 and the rail era from 1830 to 1870. Throughout each era, players take turns, strategically choosing from a set of six actions:

1. Build - Invest required resources to establish powerful industry tiles.
2. Network - Expand your influence by adding rail or canal links to your network.
3. Develop - Enhance the value of an industry and increase your Victory Points (VP).
4. Sell - Make shrewd business decisions and sell your cotton, manufactured goods, and pottery to eager traders around the board.
5. Loan - Take a £30 loan to finance your ventures while carefully managing your income.
6. Scout - Explore new possibilities by discarding three cards and obtaining a wild location and wild industry card, replacing the Double Action Build from the original Brass.

Dynamic Scoring and Intricate Strategies

The game introduces dynamic scoring canals and rails, where flipped industry tiles offer varying VPs for connected canals and rails—some providing 0 VPs, while others bestow 2 VPs. New "Sell" System: Brewing and Trade

As brewing takes center stage in Birmingham's culture, you'll need to sell your products through traders situated around the board. To successfully trade cotton, pottery, or manufactured goods, you must first "grease the wheels of industry" by consuming beer. A level 1 cotton mill, for instance, requires one beer to flip. Selling early pays off, as the first trader to receive your goods rewards you with free beer—an enticing incentive!
